Waimānalo (Sherwood Forest) – A Sacred Shoreline for Intimate Vows
Waimānalo (Sherwood Forest) is a quiet stretch of shoreline where ironwood trees line the sand and the ocean meets the land in a simple, unembellished way. The setting is naturally beautiful without being staged — open, calm, and largely unchanged. It offers couples a place to stand together without distraction, allowing the focus to remain on the commitment being made rather than the surroundings.
Waimānalo is a place of deep meaning for many, and we offer it intentionally — encouraging quiet, respectful ceremonies that leave no trace on the land.
Unlike more bustling beach settings, this shoreline feels like a deeply personal corner of the islands, well suited for couples who seek quiet intention, thoughtful presence, and a ceremony that is gently woven into the ʻāina (land) rather than placed upon it.
Many in the Native Hawaiian community honor this place for its ancestral connection and spiritual significance. In offering Waimānalo as an option, we do so with respect and care, inviting couples to approach this ʻāina with humility and awareness. Our focus here is on simplicity over spectacle — allowing ceremonies to remain heartfelt, unobtrusive, and in harmony with both the land and the surrounding community. For this reason, ceremonies at Waimānalo are best kept intimate and minimal, supporting a meaningful experience without overwhelming the environment or those who hold this place dear.

Please Note
I Do Hawaiian Weddings honors the spirit of this ʻāina by keeping ceremonies respectful, gentle, and unintrusive. Waimānalo is offered only for small weddings and recommitment ceremonies — we do not offer Hawaiian-style ceremonies, and local Kahu or Reverend officiants generally do not perform ceremonies at this location due to its cultural history. Guidelines for events at this location include:
🌺 Small gatherings only — recommended up to 8 people total, including the couple, officiant, photographer, and any support team
🌿 No structures, chairs, arches, décor, or amplified sound
If you are drawn to a deeply meaningful, barefoot-on-the-sand exchange that feels grounded, sincere, and intentionally simple, Waimānalo offers a quiet setting where love can be spoken softly and with care.
About This Location
Why is Waimānalo (Sherwood Forest) offered differently than other beaches?
Waimānalo is recognized for its cultural and historical importance. Ancestral remains (iwi kūpuna) have been documented in and around this region, creating a spiritual connection for many Native Hawaiians and an expectation of care, restraint, and respect.
Is it legally permitted to marry here?
Yes — small, low-impact weddings and recommitment ceremonies may be permitted under State and/or City regulations, depending on the exact location and current rules. Permits do not involve ground disturbance and are limited in scope.
Why do some people choose not to marry here?
Some couples or families prefer to avoid areas with ancestral or sacred significance. This is a personal, values-based choice, which we fully respect.
How does I Do Hawaiian Weddings approach this location?
We offer Waimānalo thoughtfully, limiting ceremonies to small, quiet gatherings that leave no physical trace. Our role is to provide context, answer questions honestly, and support couples in making informed, respectful choices.
What kind of ceremony is appropriate here?
Only small weddings and recommitment ceremonies are suitable (not more than 8 people total, including vendors). Hawaiian-style ceremonies are not performed at this location, and local Kahu or Reverend officiants generally do not officiate here. No structures, seating, décor, or amplified sound are permitted.
Nested comfortably beneath the slopes of Diamond Head is the Unity Church of Hawaii. This location features a chapel with seating for up to 200 to include all you hold near and dear, an integrated sound system so guests may cherish your words of loving affirmation, and a venue coordinator to ensure your vision comes to fruition perfectly.
Be sure to take advantage of the captivating photo opportunities this premise has to offer like the tropical pond or garden gazebo.

Looking for a cozy chapel filled with an intimate candlelit glow to set the scene for your wedding ceremony? Diamond Head stands tall and strong in the background of The Waikiki Leia Chapel which also features a quiet garden area with an accompanying waterfall to host your reception or even the service itself if a more natural style fits your romantic style better.
Ample space and time for you and your spouse to get ready right on sight is a priceless addition that removes so much tension from the day that dressing rooms alone in the main building make it worth it.
Set yourself up for an extravagant evening unlike no other. Share your special day in this stunning, yet intimate space filled with Hawaiian spirit which comfortably fits 270 guests.
This location offers so of the best sights, sounds, and senses Waikiki has to offer, truly a venue to be remembered through the ages. Choose from The Leahi Lanai, Leahi Room, Leahi Pre-function Space or combine all three for a seamless flow through the facility. Let the Queen Kapiolani Hotel be the home for your romantic union forever and always.

June and her team are amazing! When our original wedding venue fell through, June helped us find a new venue and walked us through the entire vision of how our ceremony would be. She was so helpful and kind along the way and on our wedding day, everything was absolutely perfect. Debbie was our photographer and she was so friendly and kind as well.
I would highly recommend I Do Hawaii Weddings to anyone!
